Guide to top beach essentials for this summer

The first step to having the best vacation of your life is planning for it ahead of time. This summer, with social distancing still in place, the beach is one of the best destinations. Families can be outside in the sun and the sand, and relax and vacation safely. To enjoy the experience even more, you must pack the right gear for the beach.

Top beach essentials to take with you on your next summer vacation:

Swimwear – This might seem obvious, but it’s important to remind yourself to carry not one but two sets of swimwear in case one is wet and uncomfortable. If you are going with your kids, carry an extra pair for them too. Your swimsuits should be stylish but also comfortable, wet, or dry.

Flip Flops or Sandals – You don’t want to go to the beach wearing closed-toe shoes because your feet will be hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable. Walking barefoot is an option because, yes, the sand feels great, but it can be dangerous. You never know what the ocean water carries up to the shore. You might end up cutting your toes or get stung by a fish. A good pair of sandals or flip-flops can prevent many problems. Don’t make the mistake of not putting them on the list.

Sunglasses – The sun damages not only your skin but also your eyes. Fortunately, you can get 100% UVA and UVB protective sunglasses to comfortably take those long walks on the beach during the day. If you are into water activities, get polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes while you’re out there having fun.

Sunscreen – Did you know that sand can reflect up to 15% of UV rays? Sporting sunscreen is a must when you are on the beach, even on a cloudy day. Most people say that you should use at least an SPF 30 sunscreen. You are also advised to be mindful of the products you buy, as they may be harmful to marine life. It is best to use natural products or those that do not contain toxic chemicals such as oxybenzone.

Research has shown that these toxic chemicals can penetrate your skin.  Choose more mineral-based or physical sunscreen products. Remember always to apply sunscreen on your body generously and frequently, especially if you are a swimmer and spend a lot of your time outdoors.

Lots of Water – Summers are hot. Therefore, it is important to stay hydrated as you enjoy being on the beach. You will be out in the sun for most of the day, and your body is losing water every time you sweat. Drinking lots of water will help cool your body while in the sun and keep your skin moisturized. Invest in a water bottle that is easy to carry around so that thirst doesn’t spoil the fun.

Protection For Your Valuables – During the summer, most beaches are crowded, and people might lose some of their personal possessions. This can be more than a beach towel or pair of flip-flops. If you are driving to the beach, you want to ensure that your car and other personal effects are safe. One way you can do this is by acquiring proper full coverage insurance.

Getting car insurance should be at the top of your list as you prepare to go on the trip. Luckily for you, getting affordable auto insurance is not difficult. You should consider a well-established and customer-friendly company such as Freeway Insurance as a potential insurance provider to keep you and your property safe during your vacation. Always park your car in a safe location and keep all the doors locked.

Beach Towel or Comfortable Chair – You have probably not gone to the beach for many months.  If you don’t have a natural tan from previous sunbathing, your skin is extremely sensitive.  The sand might feel good on your feet, but laying bare on the sand can be uncomfortable, and all the sand will be stuck on your body afterward.

This is why you need to carry a beach towel, portable chair, or folding recliner to the beach for you to sit or lay on. There are numerous portable chairs with drink holders, built-in sunshades, gravity-free chairs, and many more additional features available. Pick out a style that you prefer. Remember, the goal is to relax on the beach, so choose something lightweight and comfortable.

UV Resistant Clothing – You are advised to wear light and breathable clothing during the summer. Light clothing is made from thin, soft fabrics and fibers such as natural cotton, linen, or other types that offer UVA and UVB built-in protection. These clothes, just like sunscreen, protect you from harmful rays.

Lastly, remember to carry your waterproof camera with you to capture all the wonderful moments you will have on the beach. Additionally, if you plan a beach vacation with the kids, bring beach-designated toys for them to dig with and build castles from the sand. Also, picking healthy snacks will keep everyone energized, well-fed, and hydrated, to genuinely enjoy the sand, shore, and waves, as you take numerous photos and selfies always to remember your trip.
